Civic Software Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been working on data projects with this public interest with a unique team model since it's origin in Portland as Hack Oregon in 2012. Nearly a thousand contributors across disciplines have participated on teams. Our projects have gone on to have millions of users, have been featured in stories by NPR andĀ The New Yorker, and have been pivotal inĀ Oregon policy, legislation, and investment decisions.
Since the beginning, we've continually evolved our organizational model to enable technology infrastructure that support positive cultural and societal change, owned in the public interest. Since 2016, we've been building and developing on the CIVIC Platform, a common set of technology and processes to enable rapid development and interdisciplinary collaboration, and scale what works across the country.
